New Delhi: The flame of the torch of Amar Jawan Jyoti built at India Gate will stop burning from today i.e. from January 21. In a program to be held today i.e. Friday, this torch will be merged with the flame of the National War Memorial. In this regard, it has been reported from Indian Army sources that the ceremony will be presided over by Air Marshal Balabhadra Radha Krishna. Later, the flame will be mixed in the National War Memorial by him.
When was it built?
It is to be known that Amar Jawan Jyoti at India Gate was constructed in the year 1972 under India Gate in memory of the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. However, the India Gate memorial was built by the British Government in memory of British Indian soldiers who lost their lives between 1914-21. But then later the Amar Jawan Jyoti was included in the war memorial after India’s big victory over Pakistan in 1970. At the same time, the National War Memorial built in the India Gate complex was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in 2019.
Whose names are included in the memorial
Significantly, the National War Memorial bears the names of all the Indian defense personnel who lost their lives in various operations from 1947-48. At the same time, the war with Pakistan and the conflict with Chinese soldiers in Galwan Valley as well as the names of soldiers who lost their lives in various anti-terrorist operations are also included on the walls of this memorial.
