New Delhi: Omicron’s crisis continues in the country. In view of this, on Friday, the Union Health Ministry, ACMR, and NITI Aayog held a press conference. During this, everyone shared information about the situation of Corona in the country. During this, Health Member of NITI Aayog Dr. VK Paul has warned the country. He said that “vaccine and mask are both necessary, we should learn from the global situation.”
Lav Agarwal, Joint Secretary, Union Health Ministry said, “Last week the overall positivity rate in the country stood at 0.73%. Less than 10,000 cases in the last 14 days. Active cases are highest in two states- Kerala and Maharashtra with the first having more than 43% active cases and the latter more than 10%”
While giving information about the Omicron cases, Agarwal said, ‘Total 25 Omicron cases in the country so far. All detected cases have mild symptoms. Less than 0.04% of the total variants were detected.
He said, “2 nos country had reported Omicron cases till 24th November. Now 59 countries have reported cases of Omicron. 2,936 omicron cases have been reported in these 59 countries. In addition, 78,054 probable cases have been detected – their genome sequencing is underway.”
Testing, screening continues continuously
Lav Agarwal said, “Surveillance, effective screening, monitoring of international travelers and health infrastructure are being upgraded. States have been notified to increase their surveillance and conduct proactive testing of passengers coming from other countries.
He said, “WHO highlighted that public health measures other than vaccination should be followed on an ongoing basis. Adequate precautions have to be followed… The laxity in public health measures led to an increase in cases in Europe.”
Need help not to spread panic
ICMR chief Balram Bhargava said, “Regular meetings are being held to keep an eye on the global scenario and the COVID scenario in India with a focus on Omron. We need help not to spread panic. District level restrictions will be applicable if there is more than 5% positivity.”
