New Delhi: Indian famous female wrestler Vinesh Phogat is celebrating her 27th birthday today i.e. on 25 August. He was born on 25 August 1994 in Balali, Haryana. Vinesh has won the gold medal in the Asian Games. Vinesh has won many medals in wrestling. Winning a bronze medal at the World Wrestling Championships, Vince became the first wrestler to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics.
Personal life
Vinesh’s father Rajpal had lost his life in a land dispute. After which Vinesh’s uncle and famous wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat raised him. Vinesh received training from his uncle Mahavir Singh Phogat. His uncle Mahavir and his mother Premlata had to listen to the society for girls wrestling and wearing their shorts.
The first athlete to be nominated for Laureus World Sports Award
India’s star female wrestler Vinesh Phogat was nominated for the world’s most prestigious sports award ‘Laureus World Sports Award’ in January 2019. She is the first Indian athlete to be nominated for this award. Vinesh was also included in the ‘World Comeback of the Year’ category. Vinesh has also won the gold medal for the country in the 2018 Asian Games.
Wanted to make a career in tennis
Vinesh Phogat may belong to a family of wrestlers, but her father’s shadow was lifted from her when she was just 9 years old. Mahavir Phogat trained his niece Vinesh along with his daughters Geeta and Babita. Earlier Vinesh had never thought that she would become a wrestler, as she wanted to make a career in tennis.
WFI banned
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Tuesday said it has ‘temporarily suspended’ star wrestler Vinesh Phogat for indiscipline during the campaign at the Tokyo Olympic Games and also issued a notice to young Sonam Malik for misbehavior.
Awards
Vinesh Phogat was awarded the Arjuna Award by the Government of India in 2016. When his name was not included in the list of civilian awards released in January 2020, Phogat questioned the selection process of the government award. Apart from this, she has also been nominated for the Laureus World Sports Award. He has also won many medals in Asian Games.
