New Delhi: Heavy water-logging and traffic jams occurred at many places on Sunday as the rain continued to lash Delhi. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 28.2 mm of rain from 8.30 am on Saturday to 8.30 am on Sunday, while the Ridge station recorded 126.8 mm of rain, officials said.

According to the Public Works Department, there was heavy water-logging in Yamuna Bazar, Khanpur, Rohtak Road, Lodhi Road, Azadpur Underpass, Zakhira Underpass, Shakti Nagar Underpass, Kirari, Sagarpur. PWD officials said that around 20-30 complaints of waterlogging were received in the morning. Officials said that the employees are engaged in work and complaints regarding waterlogging are being dealt with on a priority basis. Police said they received complaints of waterlogging after 8 am from underpasses under Patparganj Road, Yamuna Vihar, Malkaganj near Tis Hazari, and Kashmere Gate metro stations, Chaudhary Fateh Singh Marg, Munirka, and Nangloi.

In Mangolpuri, a portion of the road collapsed after rain, disrupting traffic in the area. Delhi Traffic Police tweeted, “A road has collapsed near Y block in Mangolpuri.” In another tweet, the police said that traffic has also been affected due to waterlogging at Zakhira Underpass, Azadpur Underpass, and Shakti Nagar Underpass. Meanwhile, the water level in the Yamuna has risen again and it was recorded at 205.30 meters on Sunday morning, which is just below the danger mark of 205.33 meters.

Officials said that over 100 families have been shifted from the submerged areas of Yamuna to the higher reaches in the last few days. After the water level crossed the danger mark of 205.33 meters in the banks of the river due to heavy rains, the Delhi administration on Friday issued a flood alert and started evacuation work from vulnerable places. The water level on the old railway bridge was recorded at 205.30 meters at 9 am. On Friday, the water level in the Yamuna had crossed the danger mark and by 9 pm it had reached the level of 205.59 meters. The water level was recorded at 204.89 meters on Saturday evening.
