Mumbai: Akasa Air, a new airline company in India, has canceled 10 flights in two days, leaving many passengers stranded and frustrated. The airline did not reveal the exact reasons for the flight cancellation, but sources close to the company said that it was due to a lack of trained pilots.
The sources said that the company was facing difficulties in getting enough slots to train the new pilots who had joined the company. As a result, there was a shortage of pilots who could fly the planes safely and efficiently. The sources also said that the company was trying to resolve the issue as soon as possible.
However, Akasa Air denied that there was any shortage of pilots. In a statement issued on Monday, the airline apologized for the inconvenience caused by the cancellation of some flights on February 11-12, 2024. The airline called it an “unusual” situation and said that it was not a normal occurrence.
Akasa Air Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Vinay Dubey said in the statement, “I would like to clarify that we have no shortage of pilots. Akasa Air has a strong staff of over 600 pilots, enough to operate more than double the size of our current fleet.” He also said that the company was expanding its operations and adding more destinations to its network.
Akasa Air, which is backed by billionaire Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, was launched in August 2022. The company aims to offer low-cost and high-quality services to Indian travelers. The company currently operates 25 aircraft and flies to 35 destinations across the country.
