Cetinje (Montenegro): A man opened fire on the streets of the western city of Montenegro, a southeastern European country, on Friday, killing 10 people, including two children. After this, a passerby shot and killed him. The officers provided this information. Montenegro Police Chief Zoran Braznin said in a video statement shared with the media that the attacker was a 34-year-old man identified only by the initial two letters of his name VB.
Braznin said the suspect first shot two children, aged eight and 11, and their mother, who lived as a tenant in the attacker’s house in the Medovina area of Santija, with a rifle. He then went into the street and randomly shot 13 more people, seven of whom died. “At the moment, it is not clear who instigated VB to commit this dastardly act,” Braznin said.
Prosecutor Andrijana Nastic, coordinating the crime scene investigation, told reporters that the gunman was shot by a passerby and that a police officer was among the wounded. Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic wrote on his Telegram channel that the incident was “an unprecedented tragedy”. He urged people to be “with the families of the victims, their relatives, friends and all the people of Cetinje”.
President Milo Jukanovic said on Twitter that he was “deeply saddened by the news of the terrible tragedy” in Cetinje. He called for ‘solidarity’ with the families who lost loved ones in the incident.
