Mumbai: Actress Vidya Balan on Wednesday said that she initially refused to act in her upcoming film ‘Jalsa’. Because his character in it was opposite to his personality. Vidya Balan, who played the lead role in this Amazon film opposite Shefali Shah, said that her opinion about the film changed after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The film is directed by Suresh Triveni. Who directed Vidya Balan’s film ‘Tumhari Sulu’ in 2017.

Vidya Balan told the media, ‘It has a different personality, so when Suresh told me the story, I liked it, but I said that I cannot do it. I don’t dare to do this. Then came the pandemic and there was a change in all of us that we don’t even understand. Then one day Suresh told me that he has reworked the script. I said that I would like to hear again. I knew I wanted to do it but told him not. I wanted to read the script. I read it and said yes.

She was speaking at the launch of the trailer of ‘Jalsa’ which will release on Prime Video on March 18. Vidya Balan played the role of a journalist named Maya in the film. The actress said that she never even tried to play such a character in her career. ‘Jalsa’ is the actress’ third film on Amazon Prime Video. Earlier ‘Shakuntala Devi’ was released in 2020 and ‘Lion’ in 2021.

Shefali Shah, who plays Maya’s domestic help Rukhsana in the film, said she agreed to do the film after reading the script. Rukhsana’s life changes after an accident in the film. Recently appeared in Disney Plus Hotstar’s series ‘Human’. The actress said, ‘I could see a lot of potential in it, it is so beautiful. It has many layers. Rukhsana is not a person who is trying to fulfill her needs. He is ambitious and has a strong opinion.
