New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has rejected the bail plea of senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia in the liquor scam case. The High Court said that Sisodia held an influential position in the Delhi government. In such a situation, the possibility of him influencing the witnesses on getting bail cannot be ruled out. On June 2, the High Court reserved its verdict on Sisodia’s bail plea. Sisodia has sought bail on various grounds, including the deteriorating health of his wife, who is suffering from ‘multiple sclerosis’. The court has also rejected the bail pleas of former Aam Aadmi Party media in-charge Vijay Nair, Hyderabad-based businessman Abhishek Boinapalli and Binay Babu in the same case.

What is the matter?
The Delhi government implemented the excise policy on 17 November 2021, but it was withdrawn at the end of September 2022 amid allegations of corruption. Manish Sisodia was first arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 26 February for his alleged role in the scam. He has been in custody since then. Even in the CBI case, the High Court refused to grant him bail on May 30. Sisodia was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on March 9 in a money laundering case related to the alleged scam and is currently in judicial custody.
