Peshawar: A Sikh businessman was shot dead by unknown assailants on Friday in Peshawar city of Pakistan. Police said the incident took place around 3 pm when some motorcycle-borne persons opened fire on Dayal Singh, a businessman, in Peshawar’s Deer Colony area. He said that the attackers fled after committing the crime. This incident happened a day after a Hindu doctor was shot dead by unknown assailants in Karachi.

Police have recovered 30 bore cartridges from the spot. CCTV footage has been obtained from the shop and the police have started investigating the attack. According to the news of ‘Express Tribune’ newspaper, shopkeepers of the minority Hindu community were attacked in Sindh province last week for ‘allegedly violating the Ramzan ordinance’.

About 15,000 Sikhs live in Peshawar. Most live in Jogan Shah of the provincial capital Peshawar. Most members of the Sikh community in Peshawar do business, while some run medicine shops. In September last year, a renowned Sikh ‘hakim’ (Unani doctor) was shot dead inside his clinic by unknown gunmen in Peshawar.
