Copenhagen: Several people were killed and several injured by a gunman who opened fire on Sunday in the Mall of Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. Police gave this information. The head of the Copenhagen Police Operations Unit, Soren Thomson, said the suspect who opened fire had been arrested near the Fields shopping mall in the south of the city. The accused is a citizen of Denmark and his age is 22 years.

“Many people have been killed and many have been injured in the attack,” Thomson told a news conference. Thomson said that the possibility of a terrorist conspiracy behind the incident cannot be ruled out. “At present, it is not known whether some more people are involved in the incident. We are investigating.”

Thomson did not provide any information about the casualties in the incident. The mall is located on the outskirts of Copenhagen near the subway line that connects the city center to the international airport. There is also a highway near the mall. In the pictures that have emerged from the spot, people are seen running from the mall.

Denmark’s TV2 broadcaster posted a photo of a man being carried on a stretcher. Eyewitnesses said that people were trying to come out making noise and some people hid inside the shops as well.

Witness Lauritus Hermansson told Danish broadcaster DR that he was in a shop with his family at the time of the incident when loud shots were heard three or four times. The sound of gunshots was coming from near the store.

Police said they received information about the incident at 5:36 pm local time. A large number of police forces are present at the spot. Several vehicles of the fire department were also stationed outside the mall.
