New Delhi: X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk, has announced a major update that allows its users to make audio and video calls to anyone, similar to WhatsApp. The feature, which was previously exclusive to the paid subscribers of Blue and only available on iOS devices, is now free and accessible on both Android and iOS platforms.

The update was confirmed by X engineer Enrique Barragan, who posted a screenshot of the new feature on his X account. He wrote, “We are excited to share that X audio and video calling is now live for everyone! No need to pay for Blue or use an iPhone. Just update your app and enjoy!”

According to Barragan, the feature uses end-to-end encryption to ensure the privacy and security of the calls. Users can also switch between audio and video modes during a call, and invite up to four other people to join a group call.

The feature is expected to boost the popularity and user base of X, which has been competing with other social media giants like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. X, which was launched by Musk in 2021, claims to have over 100 million active users worldwide. The platform is known for its innovative features, such as voice tweets, live streaming, and cryptocurrency integration.
