The much-anticipated merger between Vistara and Air India is nearing completion, with significant changes set to take effect soon. Here’s everything you need to know about this major development in the aviation industry.

Key Dates and Booking Information

Starting from September 3, 2024, passengers will no longer be able to book Vistara flights for travel on or after November 12, 2024. Until then, Vistara will continue to operate flights and accept bookings as usual, with the final date for Vistara operations being November 11, 2024.

Integration of Operations

All Vistara aircraft will be integrated into Air India’s operations. Bookings for routes currently served by Vistara will be redirected to Air India’s website, ensuring a seamless transition for passengers.

Stakeholders and Approvals

The merger has received the green light from the Indian government, including approval for foreign direct investment (FDI) from Singapore Airlines. Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd. will hold a 73.38% stake in the merged entity, while Singapore Airlines will hold 25.1%.

Customer Experience and Communication

Vinod Kannan, CEO of Vistara, emphasized that the merger aims to offer customers more choices with a larger fleet and a wider network, enhancing the overall travel experience. Regular updates will be provided to customers via the websites and social media channels of both airlines, as well as through email.

Regulatory Milestones

The National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) granted its approval for the merger on June 6, 2024, allowing nine months for the dissolution of Vistara. Additionally, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) approved the deal in September 2023, subject to certain conditions.

What Happens to Vistara Customers?

From November 12, 2024, all Vistara passengers will fly with Air India. The airlines have assured that dedicated teams will work to ensure a smooth transition, providing information on web check-in, lounge access, ancillary services, and other touchpoints.
