Stuart Law Appointed Head Coach of American Men’s Cricket Team

New Delhi: Former Australian cricketer Stuart Law has been named as the head coach of the American men’s cricket team ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, which will be held in America and the West Indies starting from June 2. Law, with his extensive experience, is set to lead the team in this prestigious tournament.

Law, who represented Australia in 54 ODIs and one Test match, expressed his excitement about joining American cricket at this crucial juncture. He emphasized that the United States is one of the strongest associate nations in the sport, and he believes they can build a formidable team moving forward.

The immediate task for Law will be to prepare the team for the upcoming series against Bangladesh. Following that, the focus will shift to the home World Cup, a momentous event for American cricket. Law’s coaching career has been illustrious, starting as an assistant coach for Sri Lanka in 2009. He later served as the head coach for Bangladesh during the 2011–12 season. His tenure extended to the West Indies until 2017–18 under a two-year contract.

In 2022, Law took on the role of interim head coach for Afghanistan. The same year, he was appointed as the head coach of the Bangladesh Under-19 team. Additionally, he contributed to England’s county cricket by coaching Middlesex from 2019 to 2021.

As a player, Stuart Law made his debut for Australia in 1994 and was part of the Australian team that finished runner-up in the 1996 World Cup. His exceptional performance led to his inclusion in Wisden’s list of five best players of the year in 1998. Law’s contributions to cricket were further recognized when he received the prestigious ‘Medal of Order of Australia’ in 2007.

The American team is gearing up for a series of three T20 Internationals against Bangladesh, scheduled for May 21, 23, and 25 at the Prairie View Cricket Complex in Houston, Texas. Law’s leadership will be crucial as the team aims to make a mark on the global stage during the T20 World Cup.
