New Delhi: NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankar has been elected as the new Vice President of India. He won by 346 votes out of 725 with 528 votes. Whereas, the opposition candidate Margaret Alva got only 182 votes in the election.

Lok Sabha Secretary General Utpal Kumar Singh said that out of 780 voters consisting of elected and nominated members of Rajya Sabha and elected members of Lok Sabha, 725 voters cast their votes. The total voter turnout for the post of Vice President was 92.94%. NDA candidate Jagdeep Dhankhar won by 346 votes out of a total of 725 votes with 528 votes, he said. While 15 were declared invalid, the opposition candidate Margaret Alva received 182 votes in the election.

Who is Jagdeep Dhankhar
Jagdeep Dhankhar was born on 18 May 1951 and served as the Governor of West Bengal. He was a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party prior to becoming the Governor of West Bengal. He served as the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the Chandra Shekhar ministry.
