New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been asked to appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on December 21 for questioning in the Delhi Liquor Policy Scam case. This is the second time that the ED has summoned him in this case, after he skipped the first notice on November 2, calling it “vague, (politically) motivated and not maintainable as per law”.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had also grilled Kejriwal for over nine hours on April 16 this year in connection with the same case. The liquor scam case involves allegations of corruption and money laundering in the formulation and implementation of the Delhi Excise Policy 2020-21, which was scrapped by the Kejriwal government in September 2022.
The ED’s summons comes at a time when Kejriwal was planning to go for a 10-day Vipassana course at an undisclosed location from December 19 to 30. Kejriwal is a regular practitioner of Vipassana, an ancient meditation technique, and has visited various places like Bengaluru and Jaipur for the same in the past.
Two of Kejriwal’s close aides, Manish Sisodia and Sanjay Singh, are already in jail in the excise policy case. Singh was arrested by the ED on October 4, while Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 and later by the ED. Sisodia had resigned from the Delhi Cabinet after his arrest.
