ED sent summons to Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, alleging Rs 1000 crore scam in illegal mining case

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday (August 8) issued a summons to Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in the alleged illegal mining case. The CM of Jharkhand is accused of a scam of about Rs 1000 crore. Pankaj Mishra, who is considered close to the CM, has been arrested earlier. The probe agency called Soren for questioning on August 14. He has been asked to record his statement under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in the state capital Ranchi next week.

The Central Investigation Agency has already questioned Soren in this matter. Last year on November 18, 2022, ED questioned him for 10 hours. Thirteen people have been arrested so far in connection with the alleged illegal mining. These include the names of former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Chhavi Ranjan, Nucleus Mall owner Bishnu Aggarwal, and Kolkata-based businessman Amit Aggarwal.

What is the whole matter?
In Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, the tax commissioner had submitted a report to the government in connection with several lands occupied by the army. It has been said that on the basis of fake names and addresses, army land was illegally occupied. At the same time, last year in November 2022, ED raided the places of Vishnu Agarwal, and Amit Agarwal, in this raid the investigating agency got many important documents.
