New Delhi: In a significant development, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi has ordered Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to be held in judicial custody until June 5. The decision came shortly after Kejriwal surrendered at Tihar Jail following the expiration of his Supreme Court-ordered interim bail. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had recently filed an application seeking judicial custody for Kejriwal, which was pending due to his interim bail status.

Virtual Conference and Mahatma Gandhi’s Tribute

Kejriwal appeared before the magistrate via video conferencing, and Judge Sanjeev Aggarwal ruled in favor of extending his custody. Prior to surrendering, Kejriwal paid homage to Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi at Rajghat and offered prayers at the Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place. Later, he addressed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and workers at the party office, where his wife Sunita Kejriwal, and senior party members were also present. The extension of his custody ensures that Kejriwal will remain in confinement until June 5, pending further legal proceedings.

Arvind Kejriwal, known for his active political involvement, had been released on interim bail by the Supreme Court earlier to campaign during the Lok Sabha polls. His release allowed him to participate in the electoral process, which concluded on June 1. Kejriwal expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court for granting him the opportunity to engage in political activities during this period. The case against him is related to alleged money laundering linked to the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy.
