New Delhi: The government has given great relief to goldsmiths and jewelers. Now jewelers will be able to sell jewelry without hallmarks. However, the government has fixed a time limit for this. According to the government’s announcement, goldsmiths can sell their stock of jewelry without hallmark till June 30. Let us tell you that from today i.e. April 1, the government has banned the sale and purchase of jewelry without hallmarks.

However, just a day before this announcement by the government, jewelers and goldsmiths got a big relief. The government has allowed around 16,000 jewelers to sell gold jewelry with the old hallmark declared till June 30. Now they have got three more months to complete their stock. However, this exemption applies to jewelry manufactured before July 2021. About 16 thousand jewelers are going to be benefited from this big decision of the government. According to a notification issued by the government, the government has revised the hallmarking order of gold jewelry in 2020. Under this, a deadline of June 30, 2023, has been given to jewelers reporting their stock of old hallmarked jewelry.

You have to clear your old jewelry stock within 3 months
There are 1.56 lakh registered goldsmiths in the country, out of which 16,243 jewelers have disclosed their stock of old hallmarked jewelry. This additional time of 3 months has been given only to 16 thousand people. According to the announcement of the government, after June 30, action will be taken against that selling jewelry without hallmarks. They have to liquidate their stock of old jewelry within these 3 months. Let us tell you that the Government and the Bureau of Indian Standards i.e. BIS have implemented 6 digits HUID for gold jewelry from 1st April. This 6-digit alphanumeric is mandatory on all gold jewelry.
