Khan was arrested today after being convicted in the Toshakhana corruption case. Humayun Dilawar, Additional Judge, District and Sessions Court, Islamabad, also imposed a fine of Rs 1,00,000 on Khan.
In the judgment, the court also said that he will have to spend an additional six months in jail for not paying the fine. The case was filed last year on a complaint by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), which had earlier disqualified him from holding public office in the same case.
The decision came a day after the Islamabad High Court (IHC) set aside a sessions court order upholding the maintainability of the Toshakhana case for criminal proceedings against Khan. The Toshakhana is a department under the Cabinet Division, where gifts given to rulers and government officials by other heads of government and foreign dignitaries are kept. Imran Khan bought some gifts from Toshakhana, including an expensive watch, and sold them to make a profit.
