At the same time, after getting legal recognition of this bill, now the news portal will also be required to register itself like newspapers. Please note that till now this rule is applicable only to newspapers.

It is noteworthy that now the Central Government is going to completely abolish the 155-year-old Press and Registration of Books Act. In its place, the ‘Press and Registration of Periodical Bill’ is being brought. In this bill, there will be a new and easy registration system for newspapers, while under this, preparations are going on in full swing to bring digital media as well. There is also news that the central government can introduce this bill in the house only during this monsoon session.

According to the information, this new bill will replace the Press and Registration of Books (PRB) Act, 1867. Under this, its procedures will be kept very simple for medium and small publishers and the values ​​of freedom of the press will be maintained in it.

Whereas in the draft bill of 2019, ‘news on digital media’ had been defined as ‘news in the digital format’ which can be broadcast over the internet, computer, or mobile network. It also includes metaphors such as text, audio, video, and graphics.
