Dhenkanal: An explosion occurred on Tuesday at Tata Steel’s blast furnace power plant at Meramandali in the Dhenkanal district of Odisha. At least 19 people have been injured in this incident. Some of these are said to be serious.

According to the information, this incident happened today at 1:00 pm. Some people were working at the site during the incident when a steam pipe exploded. Due to this 19 people were injured. All have been admitted to the hospital for the area. At the same time, the area has been closed by activating all emergency protocol services.

Tata Steel said in a statement, “We are saddened by the news of the accident at BFPP2 power plant due to steam release at Tata Steel Meramandali Works in Dhenkanal, Odisha.” The accident happened at 1:00 PM (IST) today. During the inspection work and some people working at the site have been affected, and were immediately shifted to the Occupational Health Center inside the plant premises and then to Cuttack for further treatment.

The company said, immediately after the accident, all emergency protocol services were activated and the area was cordoned off. The company is ensuring all necessary information and support to the families of the affected personnel.
