New Delhi: Before the new year, 1796 new patients of coronavirus have been reported in Delhi in a day, which is the highest in the last 7 months in terms of daily cases. Meanwhile, with the rapid rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the national capital, the number of containment zones in the metropolis has also increased more than eight times since the beginning of this month. The cases of Omicron, a new form of coronavirus, are also increasing in Delhi and at present, there are 320 cases in the capital, while experts have warned that the number of cases may increase every day.

On December 1, when 39 cases of infection were reported in a day in the national capital, the number of containment zones was 102. But on December 30, the number of prohibited areas increased to 823.

The southern district has the maximum number of prohibited areas at 402, followed by the western district with 108 and New Delhi with 84 prohibited areas. There is not a single containment zone in the North East district, where there are only 53 under treatment cases of infection. There are six active containment zones in the eastern district, while there are 18 such areas in the central district. According to government data, the number of prohibited areas has increased five times within 10 days. On December 19, the number of such areas in the city was 163, when 91 cases of infection were reported in a day.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain has said that Omicron is spreading slowly in the community and the virus has been found to be of concern in 54 percent of the fresh samples whose genome sequencing analysis has been done in the national capital.
