It is to be known that Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai was 20 years old when Bhagat was in the Karen Company of Battalion in Dehradun IMA. By the way, foreign cadets have been getting entry into IMA since independence. This facility is given to Afghan cadets since the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971. This is the reason Sheru came to Dehradun IMA through direct recruitment from Afghan National Security and Security Forces.

It may be noted that Taliban commander Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai completed pre-commission training in 1.5 years at IMA. He then joined the Afghan National Army as a lieutenant. But after some time Soviet Russia occupied Afghanistan. In 1996, he left the army and went to the Taliban’s refuge. Now with the situation changing, Stanikzai’s friends suggest that he may prove to be a key figure in talks with the Taliban.
