New Delhi: Veteran Bollywood singer Sonu Nigam found himself at the center of a social media storm recently after a tweet attributed to him caused widespread outrage. However, there’s a twist: Sonu Nigam quit X (formerly known as Twitter) seven years ago, and the controversial tweet was made by an account named ‘Sonu Nigam Singh.’

The Controversial Tweet

The tweet in question criticized the BJP’s struggle for the Ayodhya seat despite their achievements in the city. It read, “The government that made the whole of Ayodhya shine, gave a new airport, railway station, got the Ram temple built after 500 years, created a whole temple economy, that party is struggling for the Ayodhya seat. People of Ayodhya are ashamed!” Many users mistakenly attributed this tweet to Sonu Nigam.

Sonu Nigam’s Surprise and Displeasure

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Sonu Nigam expressed his surprise at how news channels and people failed to verify the details. The account responsible for the tweet clearly identified itself as ‘Sonu Nigam Singh,’ a criminal lawyer from Bihar. Sonu emphasized that he does not engage in sensational political commentary and focuses solely on his work. He likened the incident to the “filth” that led him to leave Twitter years ago.
