Pune: Pune witnessed an unexpected deluge as torrential rains battered the city, transforming streets into waterways and triggering a flood-like crisis in numerous locales. The sudden cloudburst-like downpour has left 31 areas submerged, causing widespread distress among residents.

Local authorities, including MLA Chandrakant Patil, have stepped up to address the calamity. Patil confirmed that the municipal corporation is actively responding to the situation and urged citizens to report any damages to the provided helpline, assuring that compensation for losses will be addressed.

The city’s infrastructure buckled under the heavy rainfall, leading to a standstill that lasted over two hours. Key areas such as Shivaji Nagar, Alka Talkies Chowk, Kothrud, Katraj, and Sinhagad Road were among the worst hit, with the deluge wreaking havoc and disrupting daily life. The initial three days of rain have particularly affected Dhanori, Katraj, and Viman Nagar, adding to the city’s woes.

Weather Alert: Heavy Rains Expected to Continue
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy rainfall for Mumbai and Pune until June 11. Regions including Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Ratnagiri, and Raigad are currently experiencing significant downpours, prompting the issuance of an orange alert for Kolhapur district. A vigilance alert is in effect for the Western Ghats and surrounding districts, with the expectation of heavy rains persisting for the next three days. The IMD warns of potential rain or thundershowers across South Konkan, North Konkan, South Madhya Maharashtra, and Marathwada, with some areas in North Madhya Maharashtra also likely to be affected.
