PM Modi to declare the country’s cleanest city on Thursday, Indore tops survey for three years

Clean Survey Campaign 2020: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will announce the results of the fifth edition of the nationwide annual cleanliness survey 2020 on Thursday, August 20. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban informed about this effect.

Ministry spokesman Rajiv Jain said on Tuesday that 1.87 crore people from 4,242 cities have participated in this survey. It consists of 62 Cantonment Boards and 92 towns located around the Ganges. He said that a total of 129 awards will be given to the states and cities for performing well by organizing the Swachh Mahotsav. The Union Ministry of Housing and Urban is organizing the event. Prime Minister Modi will also interact with selected beneficiaries through video conferencing.

It has been reported that the work of Swachh Survekshan 2020 has been completed in 28 days. 1.7 crore citizens registered on the cleanliness app. It was viewed more than 11 million times on social media. More than 5.5 lakh sanitation workers were attached to the social welfare program and more than 84,000 people engaged in garbage pickup were brought into the mainstream. Swachh Survekshan was launched by the government to create interest and competition among the people regarding this mission. This created a sense of healthy competition among cities towards becoming the cleanest city.

Indore tops the cleanliness survey for three years
The ministry said that the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and Google, partner organizations of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, who were with the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban (SBM-U), will also be brought together and They will be respected. Mysore won the cleanest city award in India in the first edition of the survey, while Indore topped it for three consecutive years (2017, 2018, 2019).
