The incident took place in Brajrajnagar town of the district around 1 pm when Das was on his way to attend a meeting. Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police (ASI) Gopal Das fired at the minister. During this, the minister was seriously injured. After this, he was hurriedly admitted to the nearest hospital. Meanwhile, looking at his condition, he was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he died.

While condemning the incident, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that the crime branch has been instructed to investigate the matter. He said in a statement, “I am shocked by this unfortunate attack on Honorable Minister Naba Das. I strongly condemn the attack on him. Senior officers of the crime branch have been instructed to visit the spot.”
Was admitted to Apollo Hospital
According to the SDPO, the minister was first taken to Jharsuguda district headquarters hospital, but was later airlifted to Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar for “better treatment”. Deputy Commissioner of Police Prateek Singh said that a green corridor was made from the airport to the hospital to take the minister to the hospital in Bhubaneswar.
