Third wave of Corona

New Delhi: The average age of hospitalized patients in the third wave caused by the Omicron variant of the coronavirus was 44 years, compared to 55 years earlier. In a survey conducted on 1520 patients admitted to hospitals, it has been found that most of them had a sore throat problem and in this wave, the use of medicines was less than before. This information was given by Balram Bhargava, Director General, Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

Director-General Balram Bhargava said that the Omicron variant was the reason for the third wave of the corona. Data from 37 hospitals were analyzed for its survey. It was found that the average age of the patients was 44 years and the most common problem or symptom was considered to be a sore throat. In the earlier waves, the average age of the infected population was 55 years. This conclusion comes from the National Clinical Registry of Covid-19, in which data was collected about patients admitted to 37 medical centers.

Director-General Balram Bhargava said that two different time periods were chosen for this survey. The first period in this was from November 15 to December 15, when the Delta variant is believed to have dominated. The second period was from December 16 to January 17, when it is understood that more cases of Omicron were coming.
