Former ‘America’s Got Talent’ contestant arrested for drug trafficking in Punjab

Chandigarh: A former policeman, who gained fame as a contestant on the popular American reality show ‘America’s Got Talent’, has been nabbed by the Punjab Police for his involvement in drug trafficking. Jagdeep Singh alias Deep Singh, who stands at a towering seven feet and six inches, was arrested along with two of his accomplices from Tarn Taran district on Friday.

The State Special Operation Cell of Punjab Police seized half a kilogram of heroin from the trio, who were traveling in a car with a Punjab Police sticker on it. The police said that Deep Singh had left his job as a constable and was using his connections to smuggle drugs across the state. He was produced before a court and remanded to police custody.

Deep Singh was part of the group Bir Khalsa, which showcased their skills in Gatka, a traditional Sikh martial art, on the 14th season of ‘America’s Got Talent’ in 2019. He was the tallest person on the show and impressed the judges and the audience with his daring stunts. The group reached the quarter-finals but failed to advance further. They also participated in ‘America’s Got Talent: All-Stars’ in 2020 but were eliminated in the prelims.

Besides ‘America’s Got Talent’, Deep Singh has also appeared in several Punjabi films and the Indian version of the US reality show ‘India’s Got Talent’. In 2020, he and his group competed in the 10th season of ‘Australia’s Got Talent’, where they were ousted in the semi-finals.
