Cyclone ‘Mocha’ intensifies in Bay of Bengal, IMD issues alert for these states

New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding a cyclone forming over the Bay of Bengal since Sunday. This cyclone can hit the east coast of the country by becoming a storm. It is expected to turn into a depression and a cyclonic storm on May 9. This storm has been named ‘Mocha’. The Meteorological Department has warned that due to Mocha, the rain will continue in Andhra Pradesh for three days.

The IMD predicted “heavy to very heavy rainfall and gusty winds” over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands from May 8 to May 12. It also issued a ‘Rain Watch’ alert for the districts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha between May 7 and 9. The weather office forecast moderate to heavy rain at isolated places along the east coast. “Thundershowers with a speed of 30-40 kmph very likely at isolated places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema,” the IMD said in its weather bulletin. There is a possibility of splashing along.

Rain is likely in parts of Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Parvathipuram, ASR, Anakapalle, Eluru, Ubhaya Godavari, NTR, Guntur, Krishna, Palnadu, Prakasam, Nellore, Tirupati, Nandyala, Chittoor and Cuddapah and Annamayya. IMD has issued a cyclonic storm warning for 18 districts including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Puri in Odisha.

Likely to turn into a cyclonic storm on May 9
The Meteorological Department indicated a cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal, which is seen as the first step towards the formation of a possible severe cyclonic storm in the region next week. Tomorrow’s cyclonic circulation over southeast BOB persists over southeast BOB and south Andaman Sea at 08:30 IST on May 7, the IMD said in a statement. Around May 9, it will turn into a cyclonic storm.

Fishermen were put on alert for five days
The IMD has warned fishermen of rough weather for the next five days in the southeast Bay of Bengal and winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour are likely to blow from Sunday.
