5 crore users of app ‘RailYatri app’ in trouble, personal data being sold on dark web

New Delhi: Rail Yatri app has been hacked. Hence, a set of vital data hacked through this app, which includes the name, email id, mobile number, and location of users, has been put up for sale on a dark web forum. According to a report, a significant set of information data hacked from the RailYatri app has been put up for sale on a dark web forum. RailYatri is an App authorized by the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).

This is how your data will be misused
Through this app, users can book tickets, check PNR status, and get other information related to train travel in the country. Cyber Police officials are keeping an eye on the leaked app. After completing the preliminary investigation, the concerned authorities will be alerted. According to the Google Play Store, the app has received more than 50 million downloads so far. According to a cyber police official, the possibility of misuse of data points especially phone numbers increases. These numbers are used for crimes such as sextortion, part-time job rackets, and financial threats to people posing as police officers. Apart from this, the possibility of using the name email ID to create fake documents also increases.

Total data over 12 gigabytes
A set of around 31 million data points from the hacked RailYatri app was put up for sale on the dark web. A hacker named Unit 82 shared the post and informed me about it. The hacker claimed that the data was hacked in December 2022. The data has been put up for sale on the Breached forum. A post on the forum states that it has a total of 3,10,62,673 data points. This total data is about 12.33 gigabytes. The bio also states that Unit82 is based in Israel and has been a member of the Breached forum since August 6, 2022.
