Kollam: The first case of monkeypox in India has been confirmed to be found in Kollam, Kerala. State Health Minister Veena George said that a person who had returned from abroad was admitted to the hospital after showing symptoms. His samples were collected and sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing. A day earlier, the Government of India had written a letter to all the states, warning about monkeypox and issued necessary guidelines.
The central government has issued guidelines
The central government has said in the guidelines that all the suspects should be monitored and tested and there should be a system of better surveillance. Infected and suspected patients will have to be kept in isolation. Also, there should be a better treatment system for patient who gets infected with the monkeypox virus. It takes 6 to 13 days for the symptoms of this disease to appear. Although this virus is not as serious as smallpox, there is no cure till now.
Monkeypox cases in 63 countries so far
According to the World Health Organization, the monkeypox virus has been confirmed in 63 countries across the world so far. As of 12 July, 9,200 cases of monkeypox have been reported in these 63 countries. The world is troubled due to the rapidly increasing cases. The World Health Organization is soon going to hold an emergency meeting regarding this in which it will be decided whether to declare monkeypox as a global health emergency or not. Although last month the WHO refused to declare it a health emergency, but the speed with which the cases are increasing has forced the WHO to think again.
Actually, till July 4, 6000 cases of monkeypox were reported but now it has increased to 9,200. That is, 3200 new cases of monkeypox have been reported in just 8 days. This has stirred the health experts.
What are the symptoms of monkeypox?
Symptoms of monkeypox begin to appear in 6 to 13 days. In this, the patient may feel severe weakness with fever, severe headache, and pain in the back and muscles. The first thing that is seen is the appearance of big grains in the hands and feet. These rashes can also affect the cornea of the eye if there is a severe infection.
How is monkeypox spread?
Generally, the possibility of transmission of monkeypox virus from person to person is low, but sometimes if the virus is present in the droplets coming out of his mouth when the victim coughs, then it can infect another person. In that case, just like Kovid, it can infect others. Along with this, the monkeypox virus spreads to humans due to contact with the blood, bodily fluids, or skin of infected animals.
