UGC’s big decision, Ph.D. not mandatory for recruitment of assistant professors till 2023

New Delhi: The central government has made Ph.D. mandatory for recruitment to the posts of assistant professors by changing the rules of the UGC. But now it has been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now this criterion has been extended till July 2023. The appointments will continue on the basis of the UGC NET score.

This decision is expected to fill up the vacancies in higher education institutions at a faster pace. The UGC has issued an official notice saying that in view of the Corona epidemic, it has been decided to extend the date of Ph.D. as an essential qualification for direct recruitment of Assistant Professors from July 1, 2021, to July 1, 2023. Candidates who qualify for Teacher Eligibility Test including NET, SET, SLET as per existing norms are eligible for the post of Assistant Professor.
