The alleged assault occurred after a birthday and New Year’s party organized by Jayesh, CEO of a reputed IT company, at a hotel in Shobhagpura, Udaipur, on December 20. The victim, a manager at the same company, arrived around 9 PM and participated in the celebrations that included alcohol and music. By 1:30 AM, she appeared tired and disoriented, prompting some attendees to suggest that she should be taken home. At this point, Shilpa, a female executive head at the company, allegedly persuaded the victim to attend an “after-party,” which she felt unable to refuse as a colleague.
The Assault: Alleged Crimes in a Moving Vehicle
Around 1:45 AM, the victim was made to sit in a car where CEO Jayesh and Shilpa’s husband, Gaurav, were already present. The accused allegedly assured her they would drop her off at home safely. However, they stopped the car en route and forcibly made her smoke an unknown substance inside the vehicle, which intensified her intoxication and rendered her unconscious. When she regained partial consciousness, she found Jayesh engaging in obscene acts with her. Subsequently, both Jayesh and Gaurav allegedly took turns sexually assaulting her in the moving car throughout the night. The victim’s screams and resistance were stifled inside the closed vehicle. Around 5 AM, the accused allegedly left her near her home in a distressed state.
Discovery and Evidence: Dashcam Footage
Upon reaching home and regaining full consciousness, the victim discovered deep wounds and unbearable pain on her body. She found one earring missing, was not wearing any undergarments, and had serious injuries on her private parts. She remembered that the car had a dashcam and checked its footage, which had recorded audio and some visuals of the entire incident. The dashcam footage became the biggest witness in the case, providing irrefutable evidence of the alleged crimes.
Legal Action and Arrests
The victim immediately contacted Udaipur police. Under the direction of District Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal, ASP Madhuri Verma initiated an investigation. Based on the medical report and the dashcam evidence, police arrested CEO Jayesh, Gaurav, and Shilpa. The three accused are currently in police custody as investigators work to determine whether the victim was given any intoxicating substance beyond alcohol. Police are also examining the company’s internal policies and previous complaints, if any.
Investigation Details and Legal Framework
The case is being investigated under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 376 (rape) and Section 328 (causing hurt by means of poison). Medical examinations have confirmed the assault and documented the injuries. Police are analyzing the dashcam footage frame by frame and have sent the vehicle for forensic examination. Investigators are also questioning other party attendees to establish the sequence of events and identify potential witnesses.
Workplace Safety Concerns and Broader Context
This incident has raised serious questions about workplace safety and harassment in India’s IT sector. The alleged involvement of senior executives, including a female executive head who allegedly facilitated the assault, highlights the complex power dynamics in corporate settings. Women’s rights activists have called for stricter enforcement of the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013. The case has drawn comparisons to other high-profile assault cases where perpetrators abused their positions of authority. Udaipur police have assured that the investigation will be thorough and that all evidence, including digital forensics, will be properly documented for prosecution.
