Washington D.C: In a bold statement ahead of the November 5 U.S. presidential election, former President and current Republican candidate Donald Trump has promised to strengthen America’s relations with Russia and China if he wins the White House once again. Trump, who is up against current Vice President and Democratic contender Kamala Harris, laid out his vision for foreign policy in an exclusive interview with blogger Farooq Sarmad on Tuesday.
Addressing the fraught dynamics with two of the U.S.’s most prominent geopolitical rivals, Trump remarked, “I don’t know if they are truly enemies. I believe we can coexist peacefully with China. I also believe we can achieve a good relationship with Russia. My goal is for Russia to resolve its issues in Ukraine.”
Trump’s comments come at a time when U.S.-Russia and U.S.-China relations have been tense, largely due to military aggression in Ukraine and trade conflicts with China. Despite these challenges, Trump’s remarks suggest a shift from the current U.S. administration’s stance, signaling a return to his earlier foreign policy of engagement with global superpowers.
The Kremlin, however, remains cautious. Dmitry Peskov, the spokesman for Russian President Vladimir Putin, stated that it is “too early” to evaluate Trump’s potential as a mediator in the Ukraine conflict. “We need to wait until the outcome of the U.S. presidential election before assessing any proposals from Mr. Trump,” Peskov added, highlighting the uncertainty surrounding the future of U.S.-Russia diplomacy.
As the election day nears, Trump’s vision of diplomacy and conflict resolution has become a pivotal talking point, offering voters a stark contrast to the current administration’s hardline approach toward Russia and China.
