Chennai: A petition has been filed in the Madras High Court seeking arrest against Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli and actress Tamannaah Bhatia for promoting ‘online gambling’. The case will be heard on Tuesday
This petition has been filed by a lawyer from Chennai. In this petition, the petitioner has asked MHC to ban online gambling apps, saying that the youth are getting addicted to it. The petition further states that these online gambling companies are brainwashing the youth through stars like Virat and Tamanna and hence both of them should be arrested.
The lawyer further wrote in the petition that one such youth committed suicide due to not being able to withdraw money from online gambling. Recently, an increase in the number of increased suicide cases in Tamil Nadu has also been written.
Virat Kohli is all set to participate in the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After being at home for a period of three months, Indian cricketers started practicing a few weeks ago, indicating the resumption of cricket.
Soon after the International Cricket Council (ICC) postponed the Men’s World T20, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the opening and final decisions of IPL 13. The upcoming season will be played in the UAE due to the increase in the number of coronavirus cases in India. The details of the tournament will be decided at the IPL Governing Council meeting. As per preliminary confirmation, IPL 2020 will start on 19 September, and will end on 8 or 10 November.
