In a major push toward digital transformation, the Income Tax Department launched its revamped official website and an advanced AI assistant, ‘Kar Saathi’, on Thursday, April 2, 2026. This digital upgrade is designed to streamline the taxpayer experience as the country transitions to the landmark Income Tax Act, 2025, which officially came into force on April 1.
Announced via the department’s official channel on ‘X’, the new platform is engineered for high-speed performance and intuitive navigation. The redesign centralizes all critical resources, moving away from fragmented legacy systems to a unified, one-stop digital hub.
‘Kar Saathi’: Your 24/7 Tax Companion
The standout feature of the launch is ‘Kar Saathi’, an AI-driven virtual assistant. This tool is intended to reduce the taxpayer’s reliance on intermediaries by providing instant resolutions to complex queries.
- Bilingual Support: Users can interact with the bot in both Hindi and English to resolve issues regarding return filing, refund status, or specific tax provisions.
- Interactive Guidance: Beyond simple FAQ responses, the AI provides step-by-step walkthroughs for various e-services, helping mitigate the stress of compliance for individual and small-business taxpayers.
Strategic Launch under the ‘PRARAMBH’ Initiative
The rollout coincides with the commencement of the PRARAMBH campaign, standing for Policy Reform and Responsible Action for Mission Viksit Bharat. According to Ravi Agrawal, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the initiative aims to foster a more transparent and dispute-free tax environment.
“With the new Income Tax Act, 2025, we have significantly reduced the number of rules and nearly halved the number of forms,” Agrawal stated during the launch. “Kar Saathi and our 2.0 website are the engines that will drive this simpler, clearer, and more reader-friendly framework.”
Enhanced Tools and Accessibility
The revamped portal is fully optimized for desktops, tablets, and smartphones, ensuring that taxpayers can manage their obligations on the go. The department has organized the site into three primary categories:
- Tax Laws & Rules: A digital library of current statutes and historical notifications.
- Tax Information & Services: Educational content, tutorials, and brochures available in 10 regional languages.
- Tax e-Services: Direct links to PAN/TAN services, return filing, and refund tracking.
Additionally, the site integrates a ‘Form Wizard’ that offers contextual guidance based on the user’s specific financial profile, ensuring that the correct schedules are filled out accurately under the new legislative requirements.
