New Delhi: On Monday, rivers were in spate due to continuous rains and floods in Gujarat and nine people lost their lives and 1900 people were shifted to safe places. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast rainfall in different parts of North India, Bengal and Odisha. The sky was cloudy in the National Capital Region and the temperature remained under control.
The department has forecast heavy rainfall between Wednesday and Sunday. This may cause trouble for the national capital as the water level in Yamuna river reached close to the danger mark on Monday. After heavy rains for the last few days, 5883 cusecs of water was released from Yamuna river from Hathinikund barrage in Haryana. Like Delhi, maximum temperatures remained near normal in Haryana and Punjab. In the next two days, both these states may get showers or thunderstorms.
The eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh received heavy and heavy rainfall at some places during the last 24 hours, while many parts of the western part received rain. Rainfall may occur in some areas of Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours. There is a possibility of rains in many places of the state on August 26 as well. Many rivers are in spate in Gujarat and 1,900 people were evacuated to safer places in Ahmedabad, Mehsana and Sabarkantha districts. Gujarat has received more than 102 percent rainfall in this season till Monday morning. Nine people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents in the state. The state is expected to receive rain by Tuesday.
The Meteorological Department has said that due to the formation of low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal, there may be heavy rainfall in the Gangetic plains of West Bengal in the next three days. The department said that the low pressure area is expected to deepen in the next few days. According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in East and West Midnapore, South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, Howrah, Hooghly, Bankura and Birbhum districts, while other plains of Ganga may receive thunderstorms. Due to the formation of low pressure area in the Bay of North Bengal, heavy rains are expected to occur in most parts of Odisha till Thursday.
The weather department gave this information. The department said that this month for the fifth time a low pressure area is being formed in the Bay of Bengal. Earlier, a low pressure area was also formed on August 4, 9, 13 and 19, due to which heavy to very heavy rains occurred in many parts of Odisha and flood-like conditions were created in many areas last week. Flood situation in Bihar remains grim and 83.62 lakh people have been affected in 16 districts.
