New Delhi: More than 90 officials of Delhi’s Tihar Jail were transferred on Thursday. The officers provided this information. Gangster Tillu Tajpuria was killed inside Tihar Jail by alleged members of a rival gang following a massive reshuffle of officers.
According to an official, Director General (Prisons) Sanjay Beniwal has ordered the transfer of 99 officers, including assistant superintendents, deputy superintendents, head warders, and warders. More officers are expected to be transferred in the next few days. According to a senior Tihar Jail officer, the Tajpuria murder case was taken seriously by the administration. As a result, the need to streamline things and change at the ground level was also felt.
The jail official said the step has been taken to send a strong message that laxity in performing duties will not be tolerated. CCTV footage shows that Tajpuria was allegedly attacked by four members of the Gogi gang inside the high-security prison last week. In a video footage that surfaced a few days later, members of the Gogi gang are seen attacking Tajpuria in front of security personnel.
