Jerusalem: Israeli police said Thursday that officers have shot a Palestinian woman who allegedly tried to stab them in the Old City of East Jerusalem. The woman was declared brought dead on the spot. Police said in a statement that the woman had come to the authorities at the entrance to the city’s holy site (known by Muslims as the al-Aqsa complex and by Jews as the Temple Mount).
Police said, “As soon as the woman approached, she took out a knife and tried to attack the officers. The medical personnel declared the woman brought dead on the spot.” Palestinians have repeatedly attempted car bombings, shots fired, and stabbed Israeli soldiers in recent years, targeting Israeli soldiers, police officers, and civilians in Jerusalem and the West Bank. Israel occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in the 1967 war
