Tehran: Iran’s parliament on Tuesday approved a bill barring UN nuclear inspection of its nuclear plants. It also said the government would increase uranium enrichment if European countries, which signed the 2015 nuclear deal, did not ease oil-related sanctions.

Voting to discuss the bill is being seen as a challenge following the assassination of a prominent Iranian nuclear scientist last month. This bill has to go through many other levels before it becomes law. The state-run IRNA news agency said 251 members of the 290-member lower house voted in favor of the bill, with many chanting “America Murdabad” and “Israel Murdabad”.
The bill provides for three months for European countries to ease sanctions on Iran’s major gas and oil fields. US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew support from the nuclear deal and imposed sanctions on Iran. Tensions between the two sides then escalated.
