US President Biden nominates Indian-American Ajay Banga as World Bank President

Washington: President Joe Biden said on Thursday that the US is nominating Indian-American business magnate Ajay Banga to lead the World Bank.

President Biden said in the statement, “Ajay is uniquely suited to lead the World Bank at this important moment in history.

Banga, 63, is currently the Vice Chairman of General Atlantic. Prior to this, he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Mastercard.

Biden said, “Ajay has spent more than three decades building and managing successful, global companies. These are the companies that create jobs and bring investment to developing economies.

Banga, a business leader with extensive experience leading successful organizations in developing countries and forging public-private partnerships to address financial inclusion and climate change, is to be President of the World Bank.

“He also has critical experience mobilizing public-private resources to tackle the most urgent challenges of our time, including climate change. Raised in India, Ajay has a unique perspective on the opportunities and challenges facing developing countries and how the World Bank can deliver on its ambitious agenda to reduce poverty and expand prosperity,” read the statement.

He has a proven track record of partnering with global leaders around the world to manage people and systems and deliver results.&8221; Banga was awarded the Padma Shri in 2016.
