Karachi: Famous Pakistani singer Nayyra Noor has passed away after a prolonged illness. His family gave this information on Sunday. According to media reports, 71-year-old Noor was undergoing treatment in Karachi for some time. His nephew Raza Zaidi tweeted, “It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved Tai Nayyra Noor. May Allah rest his soul.’

In terms of singing, she was a fan of Kanan Bala, Begum Akhtar, and Lata Mangeshkar. Let me tell you, Noor had a very special connection with India, because she was born in India itself. He was born on 3 November 1950 in Guwahati, Assam. She made her playback singing debut with Pakistani television serials in 1971 and after that, she lent her voice in films like Gharana and Tansen. She was declared the best playback singer for the film ‘Gharana’ and was awarded the ‘Nigaar’ award.

Noor will be remembered for his ghazals. He performed at many festivals for Ghazal lovers in India and Pakistan. His famous ghazal was ‘Ae Jazba-e-Dil Ghar Main Chahun’, which was written by the famous Urdu poet Behzad Lakhnavi. He told Dawn newspaper, ‘Music has been a passion for me, but never my first priority. I was first a student, a daughter, and later a singer. My primary roles after my marriage have been that of a wife and a mother.

Noor was awarded the title of ‘Bulbul-e-Pakistan’ in 2006. In the year 2006, she was awarded the ‘Pride of Performance Award’ and by 2012, she had said goodbye to professional singing. Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief over Noor’s death, saying his death was an “irreparable loss” to the music world. He tweeted, ‘Ghazal or song, whatever Nayyra Noor sang, sung it perfectly. The void created after the death of Nayyara Noor will never be filled.
