Indian Tricolor waved for the first time on New York’s Times Square

India’s 74th Independence Day was celebrated on Saturday in different ways around the world. The tricolor first waved at New York’s Times Square. This was the first time the Indian tricolor was hoisted at this historic place of America. In New York, Consul General of India Randhir Jaiswal hoisted the flag at Times Square.

The Federation of Indian Associations (FIA) organized the event. Members of the organization and members of the Indian community, including Deputy Consul General Shatrughan Sinha, FAI President Ankur Vaidya, FAI members and eminent American Physician Sudhir Parekh, industrialist HR Shah, former FAI Chairman Alok Kumar Singh, were present during the meeting. Addressing the people, Jaiswal said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has prepared the road ahead for India and the blueprint for the creation of a new India and we are trying to take the country forward accordingly.

Programs in Indian missions were also organized on the occasion of Independence Day in other countries including New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, Indonesia, China, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Israel, UAE. The Indians living there celebrated Independence Day with the tricolor and the national anthem.

Russian President Vladimir Putin greeted the Government of India on the 74th Independence Day. The Burj Khalifa building in the UAE was also painted in the tricolor on the occasion.
