New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced a one-month extension to the deadline for completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) process for FASTags, the smart tags that enable electronic toll collection on highways. The previous deadline was January 31, 2024, after which FASTags with valid balances but incomplete KYC were to be deactivated by banks. However, due to the low compliance rate and the inconvenience caused to the users, NHAI has decided to give more time to the FASTag holders to update their KYC details. The new deadline is February 29, 2024.

NHAI has also implemented the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative, which aims to increase the efficiency and transparency of the electronic toll collection system and ensure the smooth movement of vehicles at toll plazas. The initiative discourages using the same FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking multiple FASTags to a particular vehicle, violating the RBI guidelines and creating operational issues. NHAI has urged all FASTag users to adhere to the initiative and keep only one active FASTag per vehicle. After February 29, 2024, only the most recent FASTag account will remain active, and the previous tags will be deactivated or blacklisted.

NHAI has also provided various options for FASTag users to complete their KYC process online. Users can visit the official website of the Indian Highways Management Company Ltd (IHMCL), a subsidiary of NHAI, at https://fastag.ihmcl.com/ and log in with their registered mobile number and OTP. Then, they can go to the My Profile option in the dashboard menu and upload the required information such as ID proof, address proof, and photo in the KYC sub-section. Alternatively, users can download the FASTag wallet app of the issuer bank or company and log in with their registered mobile number. Then, they can go to the My Profile option and click on KYC to upload the necessary documents.

NHAI has also set up a toll-free customer care number 1033 to assist the FASTag users with any queries or issues related to the KYC process or the ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ initiative. Users can also visit the nearest toll plazas or point-of-sale locations to complete their KYC or surrender their duplicate tags. NHAI has appealed to FASTag users to prioritize completing their KYC process and avoid any hassle or penalty after the deadline.
