Agronest for onion storage

New Delhi: There will be no shortage of onions in the country now. The country’s well-known steel company Tata Steel has come out with a new method for onion storage. Tata Steel’s construction solutions brand Nest-In has launched Agronest for onion storage which aims to reduce onion wastage by half from the current level. The Nest-In and Innovant teams have developed Agronest. It provides a warehouse solution with a structural design that improves airflow.

The new warehouse is large and is suited for long and safe storage of onions. This ensures the least damage to the crop at an economical cost. Sensors have been installed in the godown to monitor temperature, humidity and gas so that the yield breakdown can be detected.

The smart warehouse is built using science, latest innovation and technology. Due to lack of scientific storage system, poor design and use of materials, 40 percent of onion gets spoiled in the warehouse. Farmers face many challenges besides difficulty in transportation, maintaining healthy safe life for onion production on a large scale due to inclement weather and climate change.
