New Delhi: We need a passport to travel by air, travel abroad. A passport is an official ID that contains the details of the nationality or citizenship of any person. This is the reason why we need a passport for air travel to any other country. Many times it happens that we may suddenly have to travel by air to another country, be it because of studies or because of a job. In such a situation, if we do not have a passport, then we have to apply for a passport. So what can we do?
There are two modes of passport application – a normal passport application and a Tatkal passport application.
If we apply for a normal passport, then its process takes about 29 to 45 days, so the Ministry of External Affairs has set up the ‘Tatkal Scheme’ for the quick process of passport. Individuals who need to travel abroad urgently can apply for a tatkal passport and get a passport within a few days.
This scheme ensures that the applicant’s passport is quick verification along with fast processing and it can be issued at the earliest.
How to Apply for Tatkal Passport:
- First of all, we have to register on Passport Seva Online Portal.
- If you have already registered then you can log in to the portal with your User ID and Password.
- There you will see two options – Fresh Passport and Re-issue. Click on the appropriate option.
- Select ‘Tatkal’ in the scheme given there.
- Now download the form and fill in the required details in it.
- After filling in the details, you submit that form back online.
- Fix the appointment by clicking on “Pay and Schedule Appointment” under the tab “View Saved/Submitted Application”.
- Complete the payment.
- Now click on ‘Print Application Receipt’. Your Application Reference Number (ARN) remains in this receipt.10. Book your appointment at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra near you.
- Visit the Passport Seva Kendra or Regional Passport Office on the appointment date along with your original documents.
After verification, you will get your passport within 7 to 10 days.
