CHENNAI: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday unveiled the first prototype of Indian drone technology for transporting human organs to facilitate rapid organ transplantation in hospitals. Rajagopalan told reporters that his hospital has tied up with a city-based drone company to transfer organs. He said that it aims to revolutionize the transportation of organs to the endpoint. Transportation of human organs from airport to hospital using drones will take much less time, but at present, it takes a relatively long time to transport organs from airport to road.

Gadkari said, “Understanding the importance of smooth transport and movement of organs, we will soon need innovation in the field of organ transport. One such welcome suggestion is the use of drones.” After unveiling the prototype virtually from New Delhi, he said, “It is a very innovative approach to solve the problem of transportation. I commend MGM Healthcare for being a part of the research and development.”
Gadkari said that the issue of organ transport can be solved through better road and air connectivity. He said that his ministry has already initiated measures to improve the infrastructure. Gadkari said that the ‘Bharatmala project’ of the highway sector will be a huge capital for the transportation of organs across the country. “We are in the process of starting the expressway project from Delhi to Dehradun, which will reduce travel time… I am very cautious and sensitive about the transportation of organs,” the minister said.
