New Delhi: The Congress party has emerged victorious in the recently concluded assembly elections in Telangana, ending the 10-year rule of the BRS. The Congress has won 64 seats in the 119-member state assembly, while its ally, the Communist Party of India (CPI) has won one seat. The BRS could win only 39 seats, while the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) retained its seven seats.
The Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former president Rahul Gandhi discussed the issue of government formation in Telangana on Tuesday. According to sources, the name of state Congress committee president Revanth Reddy has been approved as the chief minister of Telangana in the meeting. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on December 7.
Congress organization general secretary KC Venugopal announced the decision in a press conference held at the party headquarters. He said that the legislature party had passed a resolution authorizing the Congress president to choose the leader of the legislature party. He said that after considering the report of the observers and discussing it with senior leaders, the Congress president has decided that Revanth Reddy will be the leader of the legislature party. He praised Revanth Reddy as a multifaceted leader and credited him for the party’s victory in the elections along with senior leaders.
Revanth Reddy, who is also working as the state president, expressed his gratitude to the Congress president and the party workers for their support. He said that he will work hard to fulfill the aspirations of the people of Telangana and deliver good governance. He also thanked the CPI and the AIMIM for their alliance and cooperation.
However, not everyone was happy with the decision. Some senior leaders of Telangana Congress, such as Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Uttam Kumar Reddy, Sridhar Babu, and Komatireddy brothers, reportedly opposed the name of Revanth Reddy as CM. They claimed that they had more experience and popularity than Revanth Reddy and that he was not a unanimous choice of the MLAs. They also alleged that Revanth Reddy had indulged in corruption and anti-party activities in the past.
The Congress has made a historic comeback in Telangana by defeating the BRS, which had been in power for a decade. The party has chosen Revanth Reddy as its chief ministerial candidate, who is seen as a young and dynamic leader. However, the decision has also created some dissent among the senior leaders of the party, who felt sidelined and ignored. The Congress will have to resolve these internal differences and work together to form a stable and effective government in Telangana.
