Houston: A non-profit Hindu organization in the United States has raised 1 million to provide scholarships to low-income youth living here for professional courses. The money was raised through a digital program in which celebrities, academics, and entrepreneurs took part.
Hundreds of Americans and people of Indian descent took part in a program called ‘Education for Self Reliance’ organized by Hindu Charity for America in Austin, Texas on Sunday. Among the celebrities who addressed the event was Bollywood actor Anupam Kher, Grammy Award-nominated lyricist Sawan Kotecha.
Other speakers include Professor Kasturi Rangan of Harvard Business School, Deshpande of Venture Capitalist and Serial Entrepreneur, Gitanjali Swamy, Managing Partner of Iotask.
Anupam Kher praised the donors for serving the deprived in the richest country. Notably, this organization provides reading materials to primary school children and professional scholarships to non-traditional students. In the wake of the Covid-19 epidemic, Hindu Charity for America is also helping homeless students to access the Internet for the entire year.
